San Felipe Visitors Guide
Welcome to San Felipe, Mexico
San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, is the gateway to the north Sea of Cortez. This once sleepy fishing village has emerged as one of Mexico's fastest growing resort towns with more and more people discovering the beauty of the area.
San Felipe is a short 2-hour drive south of the US border. The city is nestled in the desert between a majestic mountain range and the endless beaches of the Sea of Cortez.
A vacation getaway for years, San Felipe has many campgrounds and modestly priced hotels that fill up quickly during spring and winter holidays and on weekends. However, during the week, San Felipe feels like the idyllic little village it was in it's early days. Stunning desert and sparkling sand dunes surround this scenic town. A beautiful stretch of beach with warm, shallow waters offer great natural swimming pools while taco stands, bars and restaurants are clustered at the south end of the beach. San Felipe is also popular with sport fishers, especially in the spring and boats, bait and supplies are readily available in town. San Felipe has become popular in recent years with retirees, and many have come here and opened small art galleries and shops. Another main attraction in town is the Shrine of the Cerro de la Virgen (Virgin of Guadalupe) at the north end of the boulevard on a hill overlooking the sea.
The seven-meter tides expose a kilometer of ocean floor. San Felipe experiences one of the largest tidal bores in the world due in part to the Colorado River delta to the north.
A recent surge in development and both Americans and Mexicans are finding San Felipe the ideal Baja resort and retirement destination.
